@jessica rose Are you kidding me??? Its Not cheap to built a roof of any type at all.
The cost comes from the contractor’s who has to install the extra rows of bracing, extra time they charge and extra lumber it takes to make this roof.
You should know Labor is NOT cheap. Contractors here will want an arm and a leg and your First born to install this roof.
Verses just sheathing and shingles. Its not about being better.
Its about saving money and doing the job quicker.
Other than weather, wear and tear– Our sheathing and shingle roofs work just fine here.
I’m not Rich like you Europeans.
So if you have the money for this elaborate roof system, you go right ahead and spend your money. I don’t care

But when in fact like you just admitted they just do it as cheap as possible.

for 10.000 euros you will have a brand new tiled roof without the wood. for 15.000 euro’s you have one with wood. what so costly about it? at least you do it ones and your done.
And when i am dead at 70 my kids can put a new colour on it they do not like black.

We have storms and on the chance a tile flies what almost never happens because they are fixed to the wood of the roof. you put in a new one.

No pitch to the gutter ? the water will collect and make a ice dam. Then London bridge is falling down !

It should be installed at 2:22 before the cross sticks. This minimizes surface contact area with the radiant barrier.
Yeah right, you install it. How does the carpenter walk on the rafters without walking through the felt paper? Bad design
Felt paper is trash and hasn’t been used on a French roof (where this style of tile and steel roofing is done) for over 30 years. The water tight membranes we lay over the rafters have enough elasticity to forgive a lightly misplaced foot but anything more requires a repair patch and a round of drinks for the crew. A roofer here quickly learns how to be nimble and mindful when walking around on the rafters or they find another trade.

@richly mann lol. Right, this is almost realitistic. The problem is how to keep it intacted to be raised with a crane. I think ALL architects should be in the field of building for a least 3 years in order to know how to properly design cause this looks good only on a computer.

How do you stop the air from the front ?!
The grill above the facia is intended for ventilation between the water tight membrane and the roofing material (tile, steel, slate, etc). The ventilation ensures rapid drying of any condensation. Air tightness is provided by another membrane on the interior side of the insulation.

I can’t use the word fascinating. This is impossible to build. How can a guy walk the roof when they have nothing but the rafters then felt paper. Where’s he going to be able to walk safely? I would never even attempt to build. I’ve been a carpenter for more than 20 years. Sometimes it looks good on paper, but most engineers don’t know what it takes to actually build things

Does a 4/12 pitch with no attic need roof vents? It didn’t have any originally, and can i just put a gable vent on my siding?
I guess that all those batons are going to be ripped off if a wind pulls straight upwards. It needs joinery/some kind of clamping system??
That roof would probably be fine over here.

I am not a fully qualified carpenter yet, and we don’t really have hurricanes and tornadoes in the UK

@vince King In hurricane country that is called a ‘wing’ not a ‘roof’. Cause it is going to fly away. wouldn’t meet minimum shear or uplift, etc. And on and on. Like doesn’t gaf said, too much wrong to explain it all
