Cutting the Roofing Timbers – Capel #4
The Capel Build Part 4 – Cutting the Roofing Timbers
In Part 3 we saw Robin getting the timbers together, in this next instalment we see him and his team get stuck into the post and beam construction.
Roger really enjoys watching a craftsman at work and the gale force winds didn't stop Robin working or us following him for the day. We hope you enjoy this update on The Capel Build.

“They do these loveley drawings they you think, how you gonna build that?” 🙂 Exactly why I’m here – to find out how its actually built!
I can wach these two craftsmen for hours on end respect?
Could you do a video on marking out hip/val rafters
Great video – can’t wait for the next one.
This is the guy you want teaching you
Another really good video, Roger. Fascinating and educational for me, as a non specialist, seeing craftsmen at work ?. Thanks for sharing.
I am now addicted to Robins vids. Great work guys. It is generous of you to share like this! Oh, and 8 people gave a thumbs down.. Maybe they wanted you to end with a song? lol
i second that can u show how to mark and cut hip and val rafters
This is a good channel.
That is so Dangerous of a plank we’ve all done it over the yes but having fallen from a roof at that height it hurts .Small Builders .Projects can get away with health and safety .where as on site far stricter now .
This and scot brown carpentry. Best 2 channels on YouTube
SB Carpentry is one I watch too!
Not sure if I missed it in later videos, but how are you transitioning from glue-lam beam to window frame and ensuring window heads are protected from elements? Does the external gluelam get cladded? Be really interested in seeing videos on window installation..
I screw a small piece of tile batten with a slight overhang to the width on the top edge at both the top and foot of the pattern rafter, that way it’s easier to line up with the blank underneath and ensures the pattern and blank are dead flush
building flat roof with korniche roof lantern, [cold roof system] 9×2 joist with firrings fitted, building control say reqs additional cross venting around 2 sides of lantern, have trickle vents fitted to 3 sides and roof tied into bungalow roof so vented there, would we be able to notch firrings or drill holes in joist to achieve cross venting
Every time I see robin he impresses me nimble as a cat
Dang rain is always bothering craftsman from working safely. Lol
Great work mate! Be safe.
I do my thinking better after some expresso and good joke.
Love seeing master tradesmen at work, they make very complicated things look and seem so simple. I’m a tiler and bathroom fitter and absolutely love watching these videos.
Same here buddy, his work is just top notch.
Looking good guys. Interesting build to follow, keep them coming! 🙂
My wife says I’ve got a pencil with a soft lead ?
