Thanks! As an average homeowner with no skills, talent, or experience, seeing how you said to orient the caps so the prevailing winds don’t blow them up is really helpful. Pretty cool that you got TWO tar lines at the end. I’m sure you really are much better than average!
I know a thing or two as I have been in the trade for nearly ten years now. I would just like to pass on some knowledge now.
Exactly what I needed to know. Thank you!
You Rock! I’m putting shingles on a shed this week. I’ve watch two of your videos and picked up a couple of your tips that I wouldn’t have done on my own. Thanks! YouTube Rocks DIY.
I caulk the bottom of the ridgecap starter and last two pieces of ridgecap at the finishing end underneath the ridgecap before nailing to the roof for extra security. Also I like using two nails per side of the ridgecap to make sure they never come off. Do you think that’s overkill or above average? ?
start from south and head north, east to west where im at and if the house is facing the right direction and its late enough in the day i always tell them to head towards the sun
Thank you for this, exactly the explanation I needed to cap my shed roof.
Don’t want to over penetrate, go light on the nailing. Got it???
Stay average my friend>>>

Dude, I’ve i stalled roofs all my life in my personal homes. Your series of videos taught me things I didn’t even think of all those years!!!! Great job.
Thank you man.. ive been roofing a shed on your videos.. youre straight to the point and full of knowledge. Ill be watching these again on my next job!! Lol
@eejuice Cutting shingles is WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY easier when the shingles are warm or hot. They become super hard to cut when they are cold.
@eejuice the snap off blades are flexible and that would be the reason you are struggling. We use primeline or Stanley hook titanium hook blade that fit in most standard knifes. Approx $5 per pack of 5. One blade should lay 1 full roof unless it’s cold then they do tend to break more often
Me too. I’m actually sitting on top of my shed right now wondering what to do with the Ridge capping. Very handy to see what the pros do. QUESTION: What kind of hooked knife are you using? I’ve been using one of the Olfa extendable break-off blade knives, but my shingle slicing isn’t nearly as easy as you make it look. Of course, that’s probably all know-how on account of you being in the trade, and I’ll just have to suck it up. But if the kind of knife being used helps much, please do tell.
Thanks. Much appreciated! Oh, almost forgot: is the Lake Street Tavern still a place to go? Back in the 80’s, it was a decent place for a pint or three?
I agree Richie! These videos are gold!
Richie Williams more to come with all kinds of roofing tools and materials. Thanks for coming
I don’t wish to disparage other people”s videos. All I’m saying is I would hire this kid in a heartbeat. Older houses here in Texas don’t have ridgevents. I have tried to explain how to properly shingle a ridgerow to roofers.
There is a difference between doing new construction and repairing old roofs and houses.
A very clear explanation along with solid justification for each step. Thank you. This is a great video along with your drip edge video!
Yes leave the first line of defense before capping. Cheers ?
