Yes, you are right. Leaf filter is a great product but way over priced! I was quoted $11,500 and by the time he left after talking with his Boss we were down to $5000. I felt like he was trying to sell me a car. $5000 was still too much!
What kind of guard do you recommend for roof with solar panels? Or for that matter, what kind of gutter is recommended?
@Tamara Sheedy those look fantastic but I just had all new gutters put on the house and I don’t want to spend another fortune replacing them with a new “system”. I just need a really good 6″ guard that will keep acorns and oak leaves from collecting before the snow comes – if you have a suggestion, I’d appreciate it!
@Rubicon Outdoors That is false. I had new 6″ gutters installed installed last summer. Last fall, they constantly filled with leaves. Just a week ago, the downspout to my rear gutters clogged and the entire 60′ run was filled completely with water. I had to climb up to my gutters in the rain to unclog the downspout.
Check out a product called T-Rex Continuous Hanger System. It is a product made by AluRex and carries a lifetime warranty on it. We only use it on all our customers houses and it has never failed us yet.
None. Go with a 6″ gutter, they are a bit bigger and never clog, and downspout is huge. Gutter guards are all junk and when they do get clogged they are a nightmare to unclog.
No roofinsights contractors in New York State ?
Ive installed and removed many types and brands and in my experience sureflo has been the most reliable i dont like micro screen often the get clogged from algae growth i do explain to customers there is no maintenance free option however I always install 1′ pieces at each end that can be removed easily for simple wash out of shingle sand
I live in Miami, Florida and my concern material filters could tear away —Also how many inches apart because I have a metal roof and the water falls like niagra falls
I’ve had various kinds, and I’m afraid you are right when. you write “there is no maintenance free option”.
here in oregon and with a walnut tree, it is the pollen from the tree and the leaves and the walnuts that create issues. I have yet to find a solution
I like to use a guard than a person can wash through. Like the last one you displayed. Number one rule is to screw the guards down.
good point
How effective are they in the winter, freezing temps, Ice accumulation (ice dams) etc??
Never, never put screws that near and low on the roof’s edge, ice will cause water to back up under the shingles and leak into the roof.
Informative, but no close ups on the best ones…
ones that screw on the fascia & front will be destroyed by the ice along with the gutters.
your wrong ice will not destroy anything
I have been a gutter guy for 27 years, I built my current trailer to solve all those problems.
I cannot explain it entirely here but there is really only one direction to create a system that actually is just as well built as any gutter, but it’s not cheap or easy to figure out until it operates properly
Hey D! Have you seen the Crane Waterfall covers? Just took some off that had been on for 22 years. They’re vinyl, but hardly any of them broke when removed. We had new ones to be installed but the homeowner wanted the old ones put back on after the roof was done. Neat design/system. First I’d ever seen them. And the gutters were CLEAN after we took them off.
I added “wide mouth” gutter outlets and increased to 3×4 drops and it helped me so much, all the little stuff washes out. Still have to clean them some but helps so much.
Plz Move your typed Word Caption,
up to the Top of the screen!
We cannot SEE what your doing
Just out of my curiosity. If you put screws in your gutter covers and eventually you will need for sure clean them, the process of cleaning them would be incredibly tedious. Right?
For my entertainment, there was a LeafFilter ad in the middle of this video.
Excellent. I almost purchased the foam gutter guards for ease of install. I wasn’t thinking about dirt roof debris clogging them. Thanks for the video.
How many times do you need to say the sponge system is bad. Watch the video and count how many times you repeat yourself and over explain the point. Delete this video or just re-edit the video and cut down the repeats. The video will be shorter and more ibtetesting in fact i might try to download it and re edit it for you.
Just bought the Hoover Dam style (3:55). We’ll see….if anyone has any info….please reply.
I have one of the crappy styled covers that you mention. I guess that’s why I’m getting water in the basement as I finally saw the rain pouring over the gutter like a waterfall.
I never really considered my gutter guards as lasting…I wouldn’t screw them down because I clean one of or more of my 4 gutters every year after the leaves and pine needles are down. If you only expect them to keep out 80% of debris as I do you will be fine.
I go up once or twice a year to inspect my roof , clean my skylights, and check the gutter’s. Living in the woods is a bit of work,,
