They say hind sight is 20/20 and boy is that true! We are going to be fighting to install an under deck roofing system on the deck we just built. Part of being novice home/deck builders is learning as you go and sometimes tackling things out of order. We knew we wanted the under side of the deck to stay dry for storage of items such a 4-wheelers, dirt bikes etc. but we didn't know there was such a thing as an under deck roofing system. Had we know, the proper thing to do would be to have installed this before putting the floor joists down but here we are…. doing it after the fact. Today we put our plan into action installing and testing this DIY under deck roof. Bring on the rain!

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"
Great way to make more dry space! Well done
Just remember what your deck’s treated with if you ever consider using the runoff, still good for washing vehicles & machinery.
@Rob Bridges i think he need to put some steel wire ( upper the plate ) to get the snow out from the plate by moving the steel wire ? or he will need to support that weight
We have done similar things in the past with decks. Just don’t cut yourself short on the 2 x 4s! Snow melts from the sun then freezes on the metal in the shade. Gets really heavy!
Also, they can collect that rain and store it for dry days to water the plants
It’s a small world in YouTube land!!
I’ve never seen a woman in my lifetime as strong as Erin doing construction chores. She can hold her own physically with Josh! Plus she’s had 3 kids, she beautiful and a body to die for….A true Wonder Woman!
I want one……………
Remind me never to arm wrestle Erin
same thing i was thinking dam
Simps
I did. It was in the 80’s and that woman was like this one: strong in muscles and mind and beautiful.
Watching you do your roof under the deck makes me wish I had done the same thing. Good job Josh you always seem to find the simplest solutions for tough problems.
Your house is awesome! I’m still in awe with your progress and seeing what is possible when you set your goals and work towards them. Please never stop adding new projects and content to your channel!
I love how everyone comes together and have loads of fun ?❤?
The difference between your channel and other couples channels that are building a home is that you guys actually get stuff done.
@M Gower brothers will always defend and protect their sister…always
But, for the in-house games a war face will come in handy ???
@fw1421 She has older brothers.. She’s going to need that war face 🙂
Getting stuff done and having fun while doing it. I love Ellie’s war face right at the end throwing her water balloons! What a wonderful family!❤️❤️❤️❤️
@ M Gower. I totally agree AND there is no drama to speak of when they get a splinter etc. So refreshing.
Watching Erin picking up and moving 80 lb sacks of concrete makes me realize how out of shape I am! Y’all are doing a great job! God bless you and your children!!
A family that plays together stays together, love it, love it, love it.
Just my usual hangover morning: still being a little drunk, having breakfast and watching your guys’ videos. Won’t get any better than that! Cheers to all of you 🙂
I really enjoy watching the builds and how you two work it all out, but the family time brings so much joy. Priceless.
You guys have inspired me in ways I wouldn’t imagine. You thrive beautifully working together and that is so good to see. Lots of love from Brazil ??
Esse canal não dá like pra brasileiros, pra mim nunca deram, os americanos se acham melhores e menosprezam o Brasil.????
You know you’re all in when you watch someone else complete a task and you feel fulfilled. That’s what these amazing people do for me.
Josh’s reaction to the water balloon s was priceless, he never knew it was coming ?
Every episode makes me smile, sometimes laugh out loud, you get things done, let the good times roll 🙂
What a beautiful job. You guys have come so far. We carry first aid kits in all our vehicles and the house.
Something about this kinda life just makes me happy I hope when I grow up I can lead a similar life
Do it asap before your back and knees can’t keep up with your plans.
@Dan Daniel Yes, college is a scam! Feeding lefties professors. Go technical degrees..
@Dan Daniel I pray ? that for the young people from your country too.
This should be many kids college now days.much better life skills will be learned doing what Josh & Erin are doing.
I pray our young people here in america will head down the path there teaching on there channel
@Dirk van Bergen I’m afraid I’m a little too young for that but maybe in the future XD
Man, I am IMPRESSED with the way Erin was flinging those 80lb bags cement around like they were loaves of bread!!! WOW!!! Nice guns!!!!
@Brock Shields 80# bag is no joke. Was impressive.
DAMN! You’re right! The lady’s got some real muscle in those well toned arms. Strong back too. At 65 soon to be 66, I would have a serious problem lifting (and carrying any distance) an 80# bag quick-crete
Erin can carry me with no problem
Awesome ending to this video! I remind myself when working on projects around the house, that it’s so important to make time to be there for the kids…even in the middle of progress. Those moments speak volumes to children. More than we can imagine and translate to love and self-worth in their futures.
It’s amazing what you’ve been able to build over the years.
“Knock Knock?” “Who’s there” “Orange” “Orange who” “Orange you glad you screwed the deck instead of nailing?” he he. Love the channel. Cheers!
@Rush Dougherty So true. It would have been so much easier to dismantle the beams and joists for this installation if they had only nailed them! (And that was the point of the comment, by the way.) But of course, they also had to sacrifice quality and appearance to use those hidden screws on the deck boards too. They are probably kicking themselves since they don’ get to see that gorgeous nail pattern along the top and have nothing to look forward too when the nails start coming loose and popping out. No fun there.
@Rush Dougherty YES, BUT they would had to pull all those nails to put in their under deck water catchment systems. Thus glad they use screws vs. nails.
Pneumatic nailer… much faster and easier than screwing…
