How to Install a Standing Seam Metal Roof from Start to Finish

How do you install a standing seam metal roof on a house using weathertight warranty details? MORE TUTORIAL LINKS ARE IN THE DESCRIPTION BELOW!

**********************************

Standing seam metal roofs look great, last a long time, and stand up to extreme weather, but that is all dependent on the quality of the installation. Today on The Metal Roofing Channel, Thad is joined by Matt Lane and his crew from Metal Construction Solutions and Installations to demonstrate the process from start to finish. The team installs an inch and a half Snaplock panel on Adam Mazzella's 3,000 square foot roof. Use the links below to watch more detailed tutorial videos about each step.

Hi Adam, it definitely jives with the house. Glad to to see us both 15 years down the road, I remember you coming to my office as we were starting out. we are now purchasing close to 40,000 a month. Thanks Guys!

Thanks for all your informative videos. I bought my first house and 3 days later CV-19 shut my industry down. I need a roof on a budget so I’m putting on a metal roof by myself. It’s a job! How many guys did you have on the roof and how long did it take from start to finish? I’m currently doing a ton of wood work I wasn’t expecting and the tear off had so many nails you’d have thought it was a metal roof!

Thanks for sharing, why weren’t 1×4 wood pieces installed for air ventilation like you did on Matt Risinger’s roof, is it cause this house has soffit vents while Matt’s doesn’t?

Also, if I understand correctly Sheffiled Metals is the manufacturer, but what happens if I need different lengths – who cuts and delivers those?

    Thanks again.

@The Metal Roofing Channel Thanks again Thad, I watched this video before and did it again just now 🙂
The video you shared is about condensation in the attic while I’m worried about condensation in a very thin area: above the Sharkskin Ultra and below the metal roof.
Since the Sharkskin acts as ice and water shield, it’s most likely not breathable, hence, it completely isolates the house and the exterior environment, which eliminates completely hot or cold air in the attic compared to cold or hot air outside respectively, which then eliminates any chance of condensation and mold in the roof rafters or plywood – It might be the same as the thin area between the siding of the house and some vapor barrier where if condensation occurs, it disappears faster than it can damage the wood ( in case of cedar siding ) – it’s probably the same with the metal ( and even better since metal heats faster ), it disappears before it can cause any rust to the bottom of the metal.

To conclude: If Sharkskin Ultra is not breathable and seals the plywood which is above the attic and below the metal roof, I don’t see why at all a 1×4 or Shark Skin roof mat is required, regardless of climate zone. And if it’s required, then it has to be installed by the same logic around the entire house above the zip system for instance and below the siding.
I have posted the same question directly to Sharkskin, still waiting for their reply.

Moreover, regarding the 1×4, it’s wood: if there will ever be a serious condensation problem, it will rot.

      Thanks.

All projects are slightly different, but in the case of Adam’s roof, it is properly vented through the attic so condensation will be minimized. Also, Matt is located in a hot and humid southern climate, while Adam’s house is in a snowy region which played a role in the decision. If some condensation were to develop on Adam’s roof, he has a full ice & water shield to protect the building. I see why metal roofs are more expensive now. Lots of details. I was advised that penetrations must be handled carefully, and I saw in the video where that was definitely done. This came together like a cuckoo clock.
