Now that we have ended our use for the cranes and have gotten the ridge beam set, now we need to start roofing!!! This is both very exciting and absolutely terrifying for everyone involved. Not to mention roofing is a lot of work. so much detail that goes into it. Building our own house is quite the task but I think we're making good time.

Doing a little catch up since we are new to the channel. You guys are doing great, fun watching your progression!
Absolutely safety harness when in the bucket and when moving lower the bucket to reduce bounce. Forget tractor look for a used skid steer(bobcat or other) . All have cabs and heaters. You can get an 8 foot snow bucket or blower attachment. You can do all your own landscaping and hire yourself out as well. Some people look at it as having a job.
This is the best advice I’ve seen so far. Don’t bother with a tractor. Skid steer will take care of the snow, do plenty of other stuff, and be a toy that pays for itself.
Allie, I know you were kidding about the “orange balcony” but I was thinking y’all should have built a balcony or porch upstairs for real.
Where’s your belts for the man lift. Speaking of being safe. Hmm lol
After watching the election results for days, your roof install is SO EXCITING AND A WELCOME RELIEF!
@Ridgley Hawthorne such a pleasure to watch a couple working together to create their dreams. Wish them the best.
Thank you for wishing me a speedy recovery. I am taking time out from the crazy politics & working on my Physical Therapy. Sad when PT is a welcome break from politics…although weekend results were happy-making ? from my point of view ?….
Also catching up on my latest Trent and Allie fix.
I sincerely hope this posting finds you well and you are enjoying your Trent and Allie fix…?
@gizmo hill Please no more politics!
@Ridgley Hawthorne Good luck with the surgery and speedy recovery.
Thanx for feedback, Beth. Actually I am going for hip replacement
surgery this morning. (Another tale to show the importance of taking steps to prevent injuries)…
Actually, speaking of animals eating ballots…, I remember an youtube video of some raccoons at the WH in the garbage…
Hmm.. Maybe there could be something here insofar “missing ballots”. Could it be a Deep Fake Conspiracy (evil laugh)?
???!
Thank you Beth. I also just love watching Trent and Allie
“Adventures” & seeing their togetherness helps a lot to lift my spirits anytime. Especially So this nerve wracking morning. ?
Allie you should carry bear spray with you when you’re out on your walks with cutie pie Frank ?
if you have a safety harness you should use it especially when moving it so you don’t get bounced out. and since your doing a lot of high work you may want to start wearing a brain bucket if your on the ground below
Trent: “We take safety seriously”
Everyone who has been watching: “mmhmm” in a skeptical tone
@Patrick Sarmouche too soon 😉
@Sophia Faith Ferry Yup you are right I forgot about the spotter, so important I can’t tell u how many time I’ve seen a boom go off balance on 3 wheels with the slightest incline
@Sunnbuzz Yep same where I live in Melbourne Australia, They would be in a bucket and harness & have a qualified spotter, hard hat, safety glasses, hi viz PPE, very strict rules & regs.
who left the plastic on ?
@Dottie Hildebrand who left the plasti on ?
In the south, man-lifts are called “cherry pickers”!. ? when they’re left outside on job sites, the buckets are put up really high every night so people can’t sleep in them!!! ???❄❄❄☃️⛄☃️?
we got 12 yrs out of our tarp garage in North Bay Ontario. we get lots of snow there.
ok guys I’m a safety advisor, Where is your harness while in the cherry picker.??
please be safe!
“Cherry picker” in the UK – and absolutely wear the harnesses (personal experience on site). It’s not a piece of kit to take lightly!
Well done you two so pleased to see you have got a cherrypicker on site these are a very good bit of kit .dont forget to clip on your harness when you use the machine.give your digger man a call and he will come back and make you a track around the house to run the lifter on. The snow loads that you spoke of sound pretty bad better stock up with plenty of food and drink and plenty of logs for the wood burner stay in keep warm wait for spring .All the best from Cumbria ??
“we take safety seriously”???.
Sorry guys, I’ve been watching the build since the start. It’s been great entertainment but you guys have dodged bullets many times with things falling or using pieces of wood as planks on a scaffold instead of aluminum scaffold planks that are made for that purpose. Good luck the rest of the way. By the way, you should be wearing a harness when in the lift in case you fall out of the basket. A harness is also crucial if you drive into a hole and have a sudden stop because you will be catapulted out of the basket.
Long time since we’ve seen your goats, chickens and vegetables garden.
I work on motion pictures and have spent a large portion of my life in boom lifts. Fun and scary. You really should have harnesses while working in them, it’s way too easy to get thrown or fall. Get a full harness not a climbing harness. I have tons of stories about them. Great progress BTW.
That lift platform seems a little short, you should still be harnessed in. Get a scaffolding platform for the back
I love how Allie jumps in and helps on everything. She is no wimp! I’ll bet she learns to use the tractor once you get it. You go girl! With that said Trent you guys are moving right along. Great job guys.
She occasionally jumps and helps, why is she not building full time? Or better get, leading the construction?
A tip of the hat to Allie. She’s the glue that holds this ( use your own adjective here ) show.
When is your van arriving can’t wait to see it
Your house your building looks awesome

Brandon is a silent worker…appreciate his driving back and forth everyday and go back home to take care of kids..
Some friend one can really count on
Safety Tip: Always tether yourself to the manlift by means of an approved harness when working in it. Youtube is full of videos of people who have got ejected when driving over even a small bump.
@Yeah Right yeah, how silly of him to give life-saving knowledge. I know it’s cool these days to call everyone a Karen or a Sally but for God’s sake, unless you’ve seen someone die in a construction accident, shut your face! Idiot glass lickers amaze me.
Spent thousand of hours working in boom lifts…always harness to basket.
@safffff1000 well said , i lay in my and my deceased work mate’s blood for nearly 30 mins trapped under a concrete form.. 25 yrs later I fell 60′ never to work again
We called it the trebuchet effect when taking industrial health safety
Work on these boom trucks, get your harnesses on and tether to the basket! That bad boy will launch you in a heartbeat !
